Albertans Love Their Summer Vacations

Albertans Love Their Summer Vacations

Many of us Albertans choose to go hard or go home in winter. Literally, we work hard during those cold winter days then go home after work, jumping onto our couches while we gorge down whole hot chocolates and coffees all at once.

When summer comes around it’s a completely different story. Long months of hibernating like an animal have many of us Albertans craving for a summer vacation, and according to ATB Financials Pulse Survey this is absolutely true!

A Summer Survey

Between May 13th and May 28th, 2013, the survey asked Albertans if they plan on taking a summer vacation this year and the results were astounding with around 86 percent of households in Alberta planning on doing exactly that!

On the other side of the fence are those Albertans who are planning to stay put this summer. Of this minimal 14 percent, 39 percent of them are low income households or make less than $50,000 on an annual basis. A majority of these people are either senior citizens or students (which makes complete sense).

Those Albertans with a total annual income of more than $75,000 are almost always up for a summer vacation. Only a small percentage (7 to 8 percent) of these households opts out from such a holiday. Thanks Alberta for Soaring Above the Rest!

Where Do They Go?

Another revealing trend in the Pulse Survey was where we Albertans choose to take that summer vacation.

Close to two thirds of Albertans going on a summer vacation are leaving the province with 33 percent of those people heading to British Columbia, while 23 percent choose the United States as their destination and 22 percent head to other Canadian provinces. Only 8 percent plan on international travel other than the USA.
