How MoneySense Does It…Downtown Calgary Traffic Night Highway

So how does MoneySense find these rankings? I mean, I love living in Calgary, am born and raised in this city as a matter of fact, and have always thought that it is the best place to live in Canada. See more Calgary Awards and Rankings today.

As a fully fledged supporter of my home-town through my Facebook page Calgaryism, surely there are people just like in other Canadian cities, towns and villages who feel the same way about the place they live… and there are for sure.

This is something that MoneySense Magazine completely understands – each to their own.

By no means can these rankings take into account the nearness of family and friends and other personal preferences, but what can be examined are statistics that would lead to a reasonable presumption as to where the best places to live actually are.

MoneySense looks at 34 different categories in the Best Places to Live 2014. Some include:

  • Weather
  • CommutingI love Calgary
  • Health Care
  • Crime
  • Culture
  • Demographics
  • Taxation
  • Wealth
  • Amenities

Another important method was comparing places with similar populations instead of doing such with a small town and large city for example as there could very well be great differences in the categories listed above due to several economic factors. In other words, places were ranked against their peers – see the categories below…

  • Small city – below 100,000
  • Medium city – between 100,000 and 400,000
  • Large city – more than 400,000
