Calgaryism Fact #5

In the 1950’s Calgary became the fastest growing city in Canada and it stayed that way for a long time. From 100,000 in 1947 it mushroomed to 200,000 by 1955 and 325,000 by 1965.

During the 1970’s the formation of OPEC caused oil prices to skyrocket, creating a refreshed population boom unlike any other seen before in Calgary.

It was an exciting time for the city. Around 3000 people every month were arriving in Calgary.

The pressure on Calgary to accommodate the inbound made way for rapid redevelopment of its infrastructure. So fast in fact, that there wasn’t any time to create a master plan for the city.

Today, Calgary’s infrastructure continues to be improved every year, while the population also continues to grow at a fast rate. Want to know more? Check out Welcome to Calgary - 1 Million People today!
