Calgary Luxury Homes Sales Update June 2013
Last Thursday the residence of Jim Shaw, former CEO of Shaw Communications, sold for a record $11.1 million, beating out the previous record of $10.35 million set earlier this year by a home sold in Aspen Woods.
Such a remarkable sale is a good indicator of how successful luxury home sales have been in 2013, a trend that has continued on from 2012 where Calgary saw a record setting number of homes over $1 million in the city.
544 Calgary luxury homes (over $1 million) were sold in 2012, beating the previous record set in 2007 of 458 homes by a substantial 86 sales!
As a matter of fact, in May 2013 there were 84 homes that sold over the $1 million mark, the most ever seen in the city in one month.
The Calgary Real Estate Board’s semi-annual forecast released last Friday said that both sales and price growth should stay on track with previous expectations. However, the total impact of the floods in Alberta on Calgary real estate will not be known for a while yet.
