    From 2003 to 2007 home prices in Calgary increased by almost 120 percent. Needless to say in 2008 the stimulated market lost its momentum with the economic downturn.

    However, 2012 ushered in a new beginning for Calgary’s residential market as it began to pick up steam once again, finishing the year off on a very strong note.

    In 2012, Calgary’s residential real estate market saw an astonishing 15 percent increase in sales and an increase of 5 percent in benchmark price over 2011.

    Calgary home prices and sales have continued to perform well in 2013 with record high median and average benchmark prices for single-family homes and increased year over year home sales.

    A Strong Economy

    Besides increased home sales and strong prices, Calgary also heightens its appeal as a place to live through a consistently strong economy giving both locals and inbound migrants opportunities they might have never dreamed of such as a high paying entry level job in oil field services.

    The energy sector is especially responsible for stimulating Calgary industries and is a main reason why it has outperformed other metropolitan areas during economic downturn.
