Calgary is a rather large city covering 825 square kilometres, which can make remembering all its speeding camera locations a daunting task for drivers. Over ten years ago, red light cameras were installed at select intersections across the city after a high-profile fatal accident involving a driver who ran a red light. Eventually, these devices were improved to double as “speed-on-green” cameras that could detect speeding vehicles using photo radar technology.

Obviously, the best (and safest) way to avoid speed camera tickets in Calgary is to drive at or below the speed limit. Calgary’s red light cameras are also tricky because you must enter the intersection while the light is yellow to avoid a ticket, which can make some people speed up.
