Annexed by the City of Calgary in 1956 from the Rocky View Municipal District, Christie Park began development in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Soon to follow were other nearby communities such as Strathcona and Aspen Woods (today known as Aspen).

Christie Park is served by the SCA Community Association, which also serves the communities of Strathcona and Aspen. As a result, youth have expanded opportunities to meet new friends from neighbouring communities when engaging in activities and events hosted by the centre.

The SCA community centre offers preschool for children and several activities for teens and adults ranging from art and fitness classes to sports such as hockey and soccer. Facilities include tennis courts, a skating pond, soccer fields and a hockey rink. The building also has several rental spaces which can be used for a wide range of events such as weddings or other personal gatherings.
